    The "Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREG, 1972 - Annex III) describes the technical details of sound signal appliances with respect to the sound signal intensity and the range of the audibility (see: COLREGS - International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea; Annex Ill - Technical Details of Sound Signal Appliances; Chapter 1. Whistles (check IMO for latest version!)
